How do I report a Code of Conduct violation?
Please take careful note of the circumstances. Have others lined up who are
willing to corroborate your version. Find out as much as you can about the
violator. Name, telephone number, description, are all important. If you do not
know the accused violator try to find someone who does. The CoC committee
wishes to avoid a “he said, she said” situation. Lack of information will not
allow the CoC committee to take action. Also, the committee must allow the
accused violator a chance to defend himself.
Call the CoC chair, Steve Ladd (346-2515) and give a precise description of
what took place. Give the chair the names and telephone number so of those
willing to describe the violators actions. Finally, the chair must have the
name of the violator, as well as, if possible, the phone number and physical
description.
At this point the chair will decide if further action in warranted. If not, the
matter will be dropped. If further action is warranted, the chair will contact
witnesses and the accused violator and solicit information. (S)he will
immediately convene a meeting of the board (preferably before the next round of
games are played to discuss if a penalty is warranted and its severity.
Is the Code of Conduct (CoC) committee made up of only MLL Board Members?
No, not entirely. Ideally, the CoC would consist of non-board members who may
or may not have children playing in the MLL.
I do not agree with and/or like the coach who is coaching my child. I have
problems with how much playing time and what positions my child is playing. Can
I file a complaint with the code of conduct committee? Can I rally other
parents to revolt against the coach?
Absolutely not. The Code of Conduct Committee will not listen to any complaints
regarding playing time or lineup decisions. The coach has every right to
determine where and how much each player will play. Any parent who attempts to
rally other parents to revolt against a coach due to playing time would be in
violation of the parent's code of conduct.
What if no one knows the violator.
Ask the coach if (s)he knows that individual. If know one knows, a physical
description will be necessary in case you recognize that person again. Often a
board member is at a game. A few are coaches.
Will the accuser’s name be revealed by the committee to the accused?
No. For your protection the CoC committee will not reveal anyone’s name.
I'm a manager in the Major League division, can I be a member of the code of
conduct committee?
No. Coaches or spouses of coaches in the major league division are not allowed
to be members of the code of conduct committee. The league would like to keep
all coaches off the committee if possible due to a potential conflict of
interest.
